Top Ten Things to do in Skibbereen
Over the years of providing B&B accommodation in Skibbereen I am always asked to recommend things to do. These are the items that stand out – mind you the ranking within the list is a little arbitrary. Do check out as many of these as you can and the many more gems in the area.
Lough Hyne
1. Lough Hyne, Skibbereen
Located only 5km south west of Skibbereen Lough Hyne (also spelled Ine) is Ireland’s first marine nature reserve. Bring a picnic and enjoy the peace and beauty of this idyllic place. Enjoy a swim, a walk or a paddle in a kayak.
Skibbereen Heritage Centre
2. Skibbereen Heritage Centre
A three minute walk away, the Skibbereen Heritage Centre has two permanent exhibitons, one on the Great Famine, the second on Lough Hyne. The Skibbereen area was one of the worst affected by the Irish Famine of the 1840s.
Skibb Farmers Market
3. Skibbereen Farmers Market
Skibbereen Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 9:30am - 1:30pm in the town centre. Great range of fresh local produce as well as a diverse selection of quality local art and crafts. Great way to start your weekend.
Whale Watching

The waters of the West Cork boast all manner of marine life, from friendly dolphins to majestic whales and many a fin and flippered creature in between.
